FAQ for iInstall Reborn

Frequently Asked Question for iInstall Reborn.

Q

I have obtained a license for iInstall Reborn but my customers still see the nag-screen when they install our software. Why is this?

A

First thing to do is, to start iInstall Reborn Creator. Is your name displayed on the opening screen? If no, the license file is not in it’s proper location. The license file must reside in the same folder as the iInstCrt.jar file. Here is an example:

If the name is shown, so far so good. When you have obtained a license, you must re-build the installation packages (JAR files) in order for the license to be added to the installation JAR file. If you have not done that, do it and try to run the installation JAR file yourself. If the problem is solved, that’s perfect. If not, send me the produced JAR file and I will take a look at it.

Q

Can iInstall Reborn read the script files that I made with ASInstall and iInstall?

A

The script files (type *.aic) made with ASInstall and iInstall is not compatible with iInstall Reborn.

Q

Is there a trick to make it easier to add objects from a library to an installation package?

A

There is one trick that can help you, if the objects have the same name but different types. First, navigate to the first object you want to add. Click on it, at then click on the button ‘Select’ in the Object Selector. Then copy all the text in the field containing the object name. Click OK and then click ‘Add object to group’. Back in the Object Selector, you paste the text into the name field. Then change the object type.

A

The source code will not be general available on any service. You can find many examples on how to use JTOpen and JT400, just search on Google, Bing or any search engine.
